Calill opens festivities.
And Nephenee prepares to bust up Reginleif around here.
Ike orders Tibarn to stand in the corner. This has the side effect of making Tanith's Reinforce unhelpful, but, well, we wanted that EXP for ourselves anyway.
Ena could just genuinely only get this far anyway.
There's a fully traversible path through thickets along here. Tanith is standing in the sole Healhedge in the path.
Give all the EXP to me!
Tibarn obediently sits in the corner.
Yeah, I think Nephenee is going to do just fine on this map too, healing or otherwise.
Tanith, less so. Ah well, more Physic.
Also we got a Hawk flying through the trees to reach us. Important to note, though, is that this square is the furthest Heddwyn can reach with Bolting.
Jill is set to stand here, then.
I do not like Calill's odds of getting her hands on Tornado. Not that she needs it with two Bolganones.
Marcia takes out this hawk while I figure out the chokepoint behind her.
Why is Astrid and Mist the one I settle on?
I healed Tanith before this, and the tiger just knocked her back down.
Well, that Warrior just out of frame has a Killer Axe, and Ilyana can Physic her again.
And he goes for Mist. Honestly, I should've checked his crit rate: Mist might be nullifying that on her own.
She does not counterkill him, though. That's probably why he made his choice.
Unfortunate that she can't cap HP, but giving it her best effort.
Hello, who is this?
The Daein soldier has gone rogue!
He doesn't seem to have liked what he found in Gritnea.
[I hate this!]
I don't think she's very specific about what. Not that she really needs to be.
Oh, our soldier friend has been in disguise.
[You're very handsome, Naesala.]
As weird as the Leanne/Naesala relationship can feel sometimes, I like the aesthetic, at least. I'm going to feel a lot better about it if it turns out the JP wording for "infant" doesn't mean what it does in English.
Eh, maybe. Heron magic could do it, but Leanne didn't really sound like it.
[Yes... I am also pleased.]
So what's your plan past this point?
Feral Ones could honestly do anything, not just mealtime.
Sure. Nealuchi will help you if you get caught.
[Yes I will!]
Naesala: "Not that tight!"
This is the range the Red Dragon possesses. It's in our interest to treat this range with respect.
Astrid will be taking on the dragon, but she stops to weaken this cat. She crits it, though.
Shame she couldn't get further in and block some more spaces.
Calill comes down so Nephenee can one round this cat. Because if I'm one-rounding the first cat, might as well get this one.
Jill is not one-rounding a cat?
The least you could've done was not miss!
Let's just trap him in a room with Jill.
And some more healing EXP. Mist and Ilyana really have it easy getting EXP.
And Mist attracts the attention of a Halberdier. She's set.
Jill got the Paladins in front of the boss to come say hi. Slightly more concerning, but not that they deal any damage. Also, that guy has a Runesword!
And Astrid comes up against our first dragon. Fire Emblem usually has these as enemies at some point.
A massive Atk score is part of it. This is why I should've considered giving Astrid the Knight Ward and two units the Laguzguards.
Hahaha Astrid procs Sol.
It doesn't help that much. If you want to kill a dragon, you need to use something a bit stronger than a Steel Axe.
Where was this Stun when you weren't killing the cat?
Oh, now you're just showing off.
Naesala has noticed that the enemies are distracted by people who are not him.
[Naesala! Over there!]
Glad to be of assistance!
Nealuchi and backup have arrived.
This is before Naesala expected? So he was just hanging around behind a tower of Ferals that only aren't killing him because we're on distraction duty waiting for an old man to bail him out? Naesala, I have lost faith in your cunning.
Nealuchi knows when to put pedal to the mettle.
[Nealuchi! You came for me, too?]
Leanne knows Nealuchi, too!
Another of those things that obfuscates Leanne's relative age even further. Did Leanne look like this before the Massacre? Or did her body age during her sleep? If the latter, awfully nice of her sisters to pack a larger than necessary white robe.
[Don't cry, Nealuchi!]
Naesala, away!
Now all we have to do is learn this in character.
Ena has transformed, and these are her transformed stats. And... wait a second...
...What happened to you to knock 2 Str, 1 Skill, 1 Spd and 1 Res off your stats, Ena?
Ena is no match for the Feral Dragons.
Against the other guys, though?
Now that is damage against the dragons.
And Ilyana does as she does best- score a critical hit. Unlike usual, this does secure an otherwise unavailable kill.
Marcia and Tanith have been going along the bottom to clean out our... bottom flank? No, that doesn't sound right...
Pictured is the range of that dragon in the middle. It also happens to be Heddwyn's range on Bolting along the front.
Ach, those times I don't oneround...
Let's shoot a bird instead. If Astrid can't oneround those, she has bigger problems.
Mist stands in front of her and Physics her.
Jill handles the Runesword.
Oh, lovely, Jill has been spotted by Purge.
Heddwyn, I was expecting.
Haaaalp!
Heddwyn does hit Jill. Good thing I didn't put her in dragon range too.
Nephenee and Tanith leave things alive for somebody.
And four Feral Ones appear in front of Heddwyn.
Marcia kills this swordmaster and readies herself to take on the third dragon, over behind the combat preview.
And Tanith makes sure she has her anti-Laguz weapon at the ready.
...I have severely underestimated the value of siege tomes in the past.
Yeah, yeah, she's not capping any of that.
The dragon is feeding on weakened enemies for kill EXP. This feels weird, but honestly how Ena plays.
Mist Physics in melee again. Maybe I should've given her a Mend staff.
Astrid kills off this guy.
Lethe gives Nephenee a Shove so she can go help Ilyana with her "having Bolting equipped" problem.
Calill uses this spot outside miscellaneous enemy ranges to Elwind this guy. That range down the bottom is of Tanith's ~2 HP halberdier, and I probably should have put Calill in it so as to not have to track him down later.
34% and she gets hit. More healer EXP, I guess.
Mia is in range of enemies! Just in case!
Because I decided to send Jill in to take out Heddwyn.
Call him what? Bob? Maybe?
Miscellaneous quotes:
Heddwyn: That one… He has the look of a commander. If I can only hit him… Well, here goes nothing!
This is one of the few, if not the only, boss quotes Ike where he doesn't speak to his opponent. Come Radiant Dawn, and we'll be having full boss conversations at Siege tome range.
Heddwyn: That’s a Feral One, isn’t it? They all look alike to me… Eh? Wh-why is it coming this way? Aaah! I don’t like this at all! I think I’ll destroy it just to be safe.
Not the kind of person you want in charge of the defence of the Feral Ones. The only time he notices is against Nasir, who is not the same colour as the Feral dragons- but he does recognise Ena on sight.
Jill coming in with some bulking up... and the odd desire to use the Bolt Axe.
Also we steal Rexbolt. Rexbolt is the S Rank Thunder tome. It's also the only S Rank tome we get. Path of Radiance is at a remarkable dearth of S Rank weapons.
...That Sleep staff hit. Darn.
Purge goes for Nephenee. I guess Provoke just beats some things.
...Like this tiger.
And this cat. Yeesh, Ferals, sleeping Daein traitor right next to you? Anyone wanna bite?
You'll go for Mia over her?
This bird has not moved all map. I put Mist next to it with a Sonic Sword and it happily attacked.
And that makes every enemy who could have attacked Jill distracted to someone else.
Nephenee gets every stat she has practical use for.
Marcia takes on a dragon. Let's see how she does...
The world's best timing on Vantage + Guard!
Tanith takes out the Purge guy. I'd say because Marcia is there and needed her weapon changed, but I could've moved Marcia one tile right.
Calill takes out the cat that went for Mia.
And Nephenee deals with Sleep.
Mist remembers the Physic staff can be used at range.
And Astrid gets Ike off her shoulders so he can Seize.
Ilyana gets off another Physic.
One last kill to feed.
The kill feeding goes to Tanith and Calill. Everyone I want Transferring is either level 19 or asleep.
It's always just Res when I get a Mag/Spd level up.
Mist hit level 20 on the last round of healing, and got the other two stats.
Ena stands next to Jill, not that it will help her wake up.
Ike hit the wincon.
We find out Leanne isn't in here anymore. This could end badly if we don't find out the truth.
I'm not sure what Reyson's powers are in regards to finding this out on his own.
Thankfully, Naesala came back. So where did he take Leanne if she was just coming back here?
Last we saw of Naesala, he was still happy to work with Daein. Ike is very cordial with him in that regard. Even considering the Reyson conversation, I'm not sure this is how I'd be reacting.
[Brother! Oh, my brother!]
"I have what you seek". He is so smarmy.
[Brother! Brother!]
No, Leanne still won't be joining. Someone needs to teach that girl galdrar. On one hand, yeah, active enemy. On the other hand, Leanne is at the top of a short list of people Naesala cares about more than... wait, what are his goals?
Sure, Naesala. It was all Tibarn.
I feel like this was a reason he did it.
Tibarn and Naesala will just never get along, will they?
OK, he's not redeemed for that mess, but Tibarn promises that he won't start any new fights over it.
And Naesala decides he's done everything he wants to do, and prepares to go away.
Well, that's an idea.
Ike agrees. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad sign.
As most people do.
[Naesala, are you leaving?]
I can almost see Leanne doing puppy dog eyes.
Ideally, you should have one of those if you go to war, yes.
Reyson considers the creation of Feral Ravens to be reason enough.
This is something that, in terms of Naesala's goals, is a very interesting quote. I legitimately don't know whether I agree with Naesala or Reyson on this.
Reyson, of course, is not particularly pleased with this reason.
Ena kept looking around Gritnea and found something to see.
Well, why shouldn't it?
This is a trigger warning in-universe, they covered it for the viewer.
I don't want smell-based media. This would just ruin a room.
Most of the people in this room are going to hate Ike for this.
"At one time, they were laguz". That's a pleasant thought.
This is the only CG we get of the basement of Gritnea Tower. It is heavily, heavily implied that the characters are seeing much worse.
I'll leave it to your imaginations to come up with something suitably horrific. Hopefully you weren't planning on eating before or after this update.
Yeah, at least Elincia was spared it.
More than they could count because of sheer numeric quantity, or more than they could count because it's hard to tell when one laguz ends and the next begins?
This line could apply equally to both scenarios.
So... why? Evil people do not just do evil things for no reason, no matter what some people think.
So, you know all those people that win the fighting pits Ashnard has?
He needed some consistent bar to check them at.
I think it's a little more complicated than that (Ena has personal reasons to come to this conclusion), but Ashnard definitely does not respect the humanity of the laguz in a way that harms them more than beorc.
"I heard that X". The enemy of fact among the well-meaning. It doesn't help that, minor quibbling about details aside, this is a true statement. I'm not really sure of the specifics myself.
This is a specification that Feral Ones are created by ingesting the drug. One of those minor details that could come in handy to know later.
Feral Ones don't live long, they lose all their personhood, but while you have them, they're slightly better than Lethe!
Ike recognises that this subject is personal to Ena, and acknowledges this.
...Why was she not before?
Ena insists on coming with us to Melior.
Ike says this. I don't think Ena cared about any of the Daeins.
She has something she has to do.
And we get a brief scene with this soldier.
He has something to say... apparently?
Ike notices something's on his mind. He's at least that aware.
The soldier denies it.
...But...
This line is a bit of a callout to the sort of Fire Emblem fan that wants postgames and longer stories and stuff like that. Once the game is over, no more levelling, no more using these characters, and that is kind of sad.
But more fighting is completely horrifying from an in-universe perspective, and everyone would be worse people for just spending their post-game time just fighting non-stop for amusement. This is why all three of the games with postgames are done against monster enemies.
...This guy might have been one of the ones to have this opinion.
And also, "the best fighters are the ones who get promoted" is also Ashnard's plan, not ours. We promote by... checks notes do we promote?
A nice, fat BEXP packet for our last round of BEXP.
Next time: A mad king falls.
