Hm... Seems a little extreme, but it's not entirely unfitting.
So much about Nasir has been lost to time on this playthrough. All because I didn't use Ike of a bad roll of the dice.
I hope we can answer those questions in the backup.
Compared with the alternative version, this is just downright sad.
Onto better news, the final attack on Melior is nigh. Ashnard is just shy of defeat.
Also they'll be dead. Or worse.
Ike keeps his eyes on the prize.
The tower itself is perfectly fine. Quit bad-mouthing the tower!
You know, I wonder what Crimea used Gritnea Tower for before this.
...You know, fair play that she doesn't know what's going on inside the tower. That was never her job.
...I'm not sure what Ike is expecting Ena to say.
I can't even tell if this is supposed to be "I'm sorry I don't know any more" or "I'm sorry, I can't tell you". Because honestly, although the answer is definitely the former, it feels like this question is being asked in the latter.
Nasir gets added to any conversation with Ena in it, but ultimately, there was very little he added worth screenshotting in this chapter. Honestly, I'm grateful, I have no idea how I was going to implement those nuggets.
At daybreak? Ignoring the logistics of this plan, we will later talk about this plan as occurring near the end of the day.
"I mean, if Ena is leading us into a trap, we have bigger problems."
Tibarn will be appearing on the map. Reyson won't, unless you recruited him and intend to use him.
This is not an operation for the main army.
So Elincia will handle making sure it stays put and continues preparing for Endgame.
That, we can do.
Nephenee did do the middle front on her own.
And in Supports... AT LAST! IKE/TITANIA A!
It's well worth it, though.
Titania wasn't expecting Ike to come out with thanks.
Ike's going to make sure that Titania hears what he has to say before it's too late.
And Titania asks what she's done.
Everything.
Standing by Greil from Day 1. Or, well, as soon as Elena died and he had to move to Crimea.
It's the little things.
Titania was happy to do these things on her own accord.
And Ike comes out with this. I never realised they actually explicitly said this. I always thought it was conjecture from her (fairly obvious) clues.
Titania has no response for this.
Everything that has led up to this moment has been thanks to Titania. As much as she's fallen off mechanically.
Several times over.
And Greil, romantically interested in Titania or not, was happy with the life he had thanks to Titania's diligence in keeping the company maintained.
Never let it be said Ike does not respect Titania's work.
I didn't tear up (well, I'm kinda doing it writing about it here), but this was definitely how I felt reading this chain.
And we can count on Titania for years to come.
And, at long last, the Support option is no longer green and glowing! That means there are no new Support conversations to view- since Ike has capped on Support ranks, he cannot Support Oscar, Lethe or Ranulf, and no one else has conversations available. If there was going to be a five conversation limit, there should have been a way to "reject" conversations so you could get rid of this "new conversation" indicator.
Also, while we're talking Supports, Ike got his A Support with Elincia in the other file, and since we saw Elincia C/B in the main, I might as well show A too:
It's a lot harder for the game to screw up the timing when we're right at endgame.
I'd be astounded if you weren't.
Just need to take out Ashnard and you have your home back. "Just need to take out Ashnard".
Ike is proud of how far Elincia has come.
...Yeah, Ike has not been a great role model at all.
Ike is amazed Elincia is calling him a role model too. Perhaps she was actually talking about Sanaki?
Chapter 13, for reference.
One thing I want to talk about here is that the embarrassing thing Elincia says in the Japanese version is "ぶっとばしてさしあげましょう". Just with machine translation, I'm not entirely clear on why this might be an embarassing thing to say.
In Fire Emblem Heroes, JP Elincia has a crit quote which is literally that. I want to give mad props to whichever translator realised this was a reference to what became "Give them a sound thrashing!" and properly adapted it into the ENG version's "A thrashing for you!"
I will be kinda honest and say it didn't do a great job at coming off like that. It doesn't help that Ike doesn't have any particular writing that makes him come off as rough other than impoliteness, which doesn't apply to this.
Seems to have been an enjoyable memory.
Which helps, since Elincia needs a lot of those.
By that point, she had met Ike, she could count on him no matter how they moved on from this.
Please do not die.
Professional to the last. Except...
This. I feel like this is the most romantically charged Ike/Elincia gets in Path of Radiance (for a given definition of it). This doesn't come out of nowhere in the localisation, but it does definitely feel like a toning up. Even then, though... Ike is very clearly not interested in keeping his nobility for longer than absolutely necessary, and I don't think this moment is enough to get him to change his mind.
Our one Info conversation today is about the Holy Guard. This is also an "opt-in" Base conversation- not only must its participants be recruited and alive, but Marcia must have promoted to Falcoknight.
Tanith has been hard at work training her charge.
...Elincia? Well, not judging, her craft does come from Tanith's troop, if before Tanith's time.
Fun fact, Sigrun's sprite in this game is based on Elincia's- which is why she can't use Lances despite being officially a Falcoknight.
Ain't that right.
Yeah, she'll get to that point in the end.
Elincia thanks Tanith for her contribution. I wonder how long Tanith has been teaching Elincia.
Either because you're nicer to her due to her rank or because Elincia legitimately does have the patience of a saint, I can believe both.
I feel like this is a consistent title for her amongst her troops, but it doesn't seem to be highlighted by the JP text. Shame, I like it.
What was Marcia doing before this? Whatever it was, I get the feeling she's not going to be doing it later.
Tanith humours her on that point.
Since she is prepared to teach Elincia something... special.
Marcia is not of the opinion Elincia is prepared.
I imagine this is mostly because of Marcia's vigorous objection.
By hitting them. Repeatedly.
...I'm not sure I'm on board with that phrasing.
Elincia's ready to try out the new technique.
No more Ms Nice Tanith.
Appropriate reactions.
I think this might be a reference to something, but I'm not sure what.
Welcome to Marcia's life, Elincia.
Ike has this one line in a cutaway. Radiant Dawn would later commit to having Info conversations that do not include the Lord of the chapter at all.
On the BEXP front, just look at the ratio of BEXP:EXP at the very end of the game. I do not commit to this level up, because Mist can reach level 20 on her own.
These are the levels I did take. Aside from Elincia, who was just relatively cheap, BEXP is only worth it on characters who might Transfer.
Astrid is so close to hitting level 20 that Paragon is no longer helpful to her.
Take this instead.
Here is our map. Some of the forests are passable, but not all of them.
[...Ahh? ...Where am I...]
Wait, how long has Leanne been here? Or has she just not recovered from being knocked out the first time?
Wow, that's an ugly mug! Izuka here is making a quick cameo appearance, he won't be our chapter boss.
He's in charge of Leanne's watch, as well as one... other project.
He doesn't seem to like the Leanne job.
Or his colleagues.
Izuka was on guard duty?
This particular soldier is new- Izuka is of the opinion that guards are not necessary in Gritnea Tower.
Izuka is willing to humour him.
But he makes his argument.
Gritnea is not short of people who could catch Leanne if she tried to escape.
Tried the former or tried the latter?
You'll need to explain that one, sir.
Izuka has been lost in his own little world.
Now that is a strong argument if I've ever heard one.
Izuka goes on a rant on how easy he is to fool. A bit of a surprising direction for his character to take.
Interrupting him is a black screen and a loud, feral roar.
Izuka's pets need attention.
And he takes the credit for the soldier's idea.
The soldier takes it in stride.
...Cheese-stealing?
...Excuse me, the nest?
And he's talking to the heron. Lovely.
[Where is... this place? Who are you...?]
Well, we're here now.
Ranulf doesn't like the smell of the place.
Laguz noses are particularly keen. Mist inherited the hearing, but thankfully not the nose. Poor girl if she had that.
This is a place where one will encounter many Feral Ones.
So what are their numbers?
Her numbers are largely unconnected to gameplay, but are close enough that it can almost be confused for such.
...Repeat that last part.
Ashnard got Goldoans?
I find it relevant that Ena kinda tips her hand that she knows a more concrete number. The game actually considers it relevant to explain where Ashnard got his hands on Dragons to Feral- in RD, at least.
In the game's Maniac difficulty, I think there are enough Feral Dragons added to this map that, combined with the Feral Dragons in Endgame, there are in fact more than ten?
Ike is not pleased to learn that there will be generic enemies Ena's equal.
By dragon standards, Ena is particularly weak. This honestly applies more lore-wise than mechanically, but yeah...
Yeah, about what I mentioned earlier? The fact that we're going into darkness means this is clearly a dusk map. Fortunately, this doesn't actually apply to the game mechanics.
Reminder, 0 Vision. Fortunately, there will be no fog.
At least they can count on that...
Although the beasts can see through the darkness just fine.
...Oh right.
Why do you argue with her, Ranulf? She's Nasir's granddaughter! On that note, if you did save Nasir, this bit right here is his greatest contribution to this chapter's dialogue:
Nasir: What do you think, Ranulf? My grandchild is impressive, is she not?
Ranulf: That's not what I was going to say, Grandpa--
Ike is prepared to prepare for that.
So stow it, Ranulf.
Izuka's back from feeding time.
And notices that the heron and the guard have disappeared.
Someone pulled the wool over his eyes!
I do not think Ashnard would do that to you. He would be far too angry to let you survive long enough for anything other than a stabbing.
So how does Izuka make this look like not his fault?
That sounds useful!
There are armed forces heading his way!
...Not going to do your cackle, are you?
For a given definition of having multiple of the former.
Time to make a distraction for Ashnard!
Heddwyn will be the chapter boss. He has more than mages, don't you worry.
Do they have reinforcements still?
...Oh.
Aw.
Not 100% sure why not, but sure, usual reasons.
Izuka is about to pull a villain exit stage left. We are now done having to see Izuka in Path of Radiance. Man, what a role to get his own portrait.
Daein starts populating the map with red units.
Happy to see them, too.
Ranulf is not pleased with Tibarn's tone.
Don't worry, Tibarn's respecting it.
Reyson is more ready to throw hands than usual.
This line appears to be extended for the "did not recruit Reyson" case. It's just "Prince Reyson..." if he's in your party.
We have a princess to save!
And some revenge to have.
Tibarn transforms.
Elincia is not a red name at the bottom of the list, they just outright take her away. If someone is a red name at the bottom of the list and you have the option of Returning to Base, you can edit their stuff as usual. This means we can't do that with Elincia now.
Ena, on the other hand, has deigned to join our party.
She is basically as we saw her in Chapter 21, just without her Demi Band. 5 TP means she transforms naturally on turn 4 and requires two rounds of combat to speed up to turn 3. There is one thing I found out for this blog that I'll go over later about her, though.
Not that I've been in the habit of showing the stats and skills of our male units, but this is what Nasir looks like. He's exchanged Renewal and Miracle for Nihil and has a huge stat lead over Ena, but otherwise functions relatively identically. Nasir is a White Dragon, and in Path of Radiance, this is properly reflected in terms of his class- Ena and the Feral Dragons are both Red Dragons when transformed. White and Red Dragons are significantly different in Radiant Dawn, but here, they are more or less identical, but with Nasir having different transformation bonuses and -15 Hit on his Breath. (Important note for Radiant Dawn players: Nasir attacks Def in this game.)
Also, Nasir and Ena are mutually exclusive. If you save Nasir and get him to join you, Ena doesn't. Not that you have much reason to use Ena when you have Nasir, but...
Renewal and Miracle are nice skills, don't get me wrong, but Ena will need to switch to Wrath and Resolve.
We can finally bench Titania! Mia and Lethe aren't getting much of a showing, though, Ferals give good EXP and I want as much of it on the other eight as possible.
Considering there's only 29 enemies plus a handful of reinforcements...
These are what the dragons look like. The level 15 Dragon is a "super dragon" standing in front of the boss. On Normal difficulty, it doesn't look like he got much of a buff, but come Maniac, and this jerk has ludicrous stats.
The one Act 3 boss without a Skill! Heddwyn's main job is to zap you with Bolting spells and hold that lovely little tome for us. Ideally, he does not use it.
Interestingly, in Normal Mode, he is not actually standing on the objective tile. In addition to not receiving the benefits of healing, it also opens him to attack from three indirect attackers rather than one on this map. Ike can't actually Seize without killing him, though. (I suppose you could theoretically do the job with Janaff or Ulki Shoving him, but I don't think they can fly over those high walls to either side.)
This guy has a Sleep staff. His neighbour has Purge, if that is ever scary.
While I'm showing off the stats and skills of male characters, here is Tibarn. Cancel is the Occult Skill of Hawks and has a Skill% (36%) chance of making Tibarn take 0 damage when an enemy hits him. If that ever happens. Also his offenses. Tibarn. Kicks. Ass. He is, of course, male, so I will not be using him.
Well, when I do the map next time. Sorry, it was a close call, but I don't think I can squeeze it all onto one document. I really should've been able to...
