TTYD Chapter 4 Part 3: Our Name and Body

All right, time to begin our third trek along the Twilight Trail.

Again?

So what do you tell the team when you duck away to go taunt us? Surely nothing close to the truth.

So hey, remember how Vivian (and the rest of the Sirens) couldn't identify Mario readily, and had to resort to consulting a sketch to make sure they had the right guy? Vivian has not yet resolved this face-blindness, and seeing our body does not let her realise we are Mario, a character she is allegedly hostile to. Remember, she hasn't officially defected from the X-Nauts yet, she's just doing this to be nice and because her sisters have left her unattended.

The thief is going to ask again if we can guess his name. In the original story being referenced, the victim also was allowed three tries to guess her tormentor's name, and I assume this is intentional.

All right, let's see... yes, I think I know what your name is.

This is the closest Mario is ever going to come to swearing at somebody, by the way.

More than you might expect.

Vivian's Shade Fist in action. This is to show that Vivian cannot damage our foe either, and also to make it clear what her command does. You don't see the button until the time comes to hit it.

Off we go. Something we're going to see a lot as we go on is that Vivian's "tail" must be attached to the ground, and the game does some wacky shenanigans to make sure of it whenever she's moving quickly or over a great height.

We'll get his name or die trying.

With these guys running around, literally.

TTYD Chapter 4 Part 2: Blanking on the Name

Huh, starting right back as Mario this time.

Koops: Gee whiz, was that it? Sort of easy for a boss battle...as it were. Well, anyway, we got the Crystal Star, so let's get out of here, huh?
Flurrie: Oh, mercy! Was that it? This fellow was so easy! I was rather expecting more. Well, I suppose we got the Crystal Star, so let's leave immediately, hmm?
Dr. Agon: That's IT? That's all you got? Man, this guy was a wimp! That wasn't even fair! Well, who cares, right? We got the Crystal Star, so let's get out of here.

Glad I'm not the only one feeling a bit let down. Oh well, they can't all be winners.

The hero leaves, and the camera lingers on the defeated form of our weakest foe so far. OK, maybe Hooktail is less dangerous when ignoring scale, but...

...Huh. I'm in control now. So then, let's take a look at what's going on behind the scenes-

OK, everything seems to be in order.

...Guys?

...We didn't even get the Ruby Star after all? Well, I guess that means there's still meat on the bone to be chowed down here. That's right, this story doesn't end with the Twilighters no longer turned to swine, but it has taken a far, far darker turn.

TTYD Chapter 4 Part 1: Pigging Out

Chapter 4. Quite possibly the game's most memorable chapter, for all the right and the wrong reasons at the same time. I have been looking forward to this one.

We get a very miserable and depressed theme, although whether that is the suffering the locals are placed under or just their natural state of  being is another question. For what it's worth, it never gets a new song.

Koops: Isn't it a bit early for twilight? Hey, wait a minute! Think this is Twilight Town?
Flurrie: This place has a mysterious air to it... Might it be... Is this Twilight Town?
Dr. Agon: Ugh, this place gives me the creeps. Is this Twilight Town?

Interesting perspectives. Dr. Agon hates the place on sight, while Koops double-checks his watch to make sure it's not supposed to be twilight.

Despite the lax security, the unusual position of the pipe and a general lack of interest has kept the village pretty isolated.

And the village has need of fresh blood.

So, back up and tell us about that "bad time".

This fellow is spared the difficulty of explaining his plight by a practical demonstration.

The chiming of the steeple bell foretells ominous portents to the people of this town.

This time, it is this guy who will be suffering.

Oink oink.

Koops: Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa!! What just happened?
Flurrie: Goodness, gracious me! What might THAT mean?
Dr. Agon: Whoa! That was the craziest thing I've ever seen! What's going on in this weirdo town?

I think it's pretty clear.

TTYD Post-Chapter 3 Part 2: Grubba's Dirty Laundry

The new Badges available are:

  • Power Rush P (1 BP) (50 coins): Best found here for the collection, it's a better version of Mario's Power Rush because Partners can be swapped, and no more.
  • Shrink Stomp (1 BP) (75 coins): We already found our free copy in the Great Tree, but hey, if you want a bit more free time with a Shrunk enemy, this can power up your Stomp.
  • Ice Smash (1 BP) (75 coins): This is a normal Hammer attack that can inflict the Frozen status, for 3 FP. It's a pretty terrible move and it can be acquired for free later.

...

...

I wanted to start clearing out the Lovely Howz so I could get some more control over the discounted Badges, and I didn't think Ice Smash would be free later. I especially did not expect the free copy to be in Chapter 4.

...Damn, this is painful. Go for Power Rush P!

Three cheers for Mario!

Beforehand, this same fighting fan dismisses Rawk Hawk as "no Prince Mush". They really build up this guy for a guy we can never fight.

Our brother is over here. We'd see him if we had to go from Frankly's place to the pipe.

I'm sure you know this, but that's your brother, Luigi. Duh. It seems like he's suspenders-deep in his own crazy adventure right now. If you ask him, he'll tell you all about it... but I wonder how much of his story is true...

On this map, Goombella doubts Luigi's stories openly. I think this is the only time he's here in West Rogueport, though.

I can tell from the cherry bomb.
